Ending the First Week at Lycée Saint Marc - Lyon by Tyler Boie (Friday, 31 May)

We started today with two classes with our exchange students.  For me, Olivier, and Declan, we went to a history class and a math class.  During the history class, we talked about the American Revolution and the United States Constitution.  We talked about the basic structure of the United States government, but nothing too new for us Americans.    After the two classes, we headed out for  Le Parc de la Tête d'Or.   We broke off into groups of four and walked around for about an hour and a half.  Myself, Wyatt, Jonathan, and Olivier, we went straight to the zoo.  Eventually we went to a nearby food court in the park and got some fries to split.  At 12:30, we headed back to the front gate. We had a nice picnic with the food we had brought from the school.  It consisted of a ham and cheese sandwich, an apple, some apple (definitely banana) cakes containing four grams of protein each, apple sauce, chips, and some water.  Conor, be...

Great Day at Lycée Saint Marc and Lyon by Declan Webb (Thursday, 30 May)

This morning I woke myself up at around 7:00, after getting ready Clarisse and I went to the train station in order to get to school, on the way we talked about the day before. I went into today a bit lost as I had neglected to check what was on the docket the night before as I was so tired from the day we had ziplining. Though this day was less tiring than ziplining it was no less entertaining.      I had a great time in the morning at Lycée Saint Marc, enjoying their English language class wherein I got to exercise my voice talent redubbing a zombie movie in english. Soon after I had to say goodbye to Clarisse and go with the rest of the BC High boys to Bernachon’s Chocolate Store. On the way there me and the boys got to arguing the woes of various economic systems and how we had enjoyed Lyon so far. Upon arriving we were greeted by two long tables set with light brioche buns and after a short while we were granted a taste of some of the finest hot c...

  1. Class with my exchange student Class was weird today because I did not have any. I came in at 8:00 this morning and played a video game called Brawl Stars. I am trying to become a better video game player than the French exchange students who play all of the time. Luckily my exchange student lives very close to the school. Only a three minute walk away. So he was able to take me to school and then go back home. 2. Illusions Museum The first thing that we did today was see the museum of illusions which is very close to our school Lycée de Saint Marc. We arrived a little early for the museum so we had some time to burn. We ended up walking around and we found something to eat at Pret à manger. It is a healthy snack shop that sells yogurt and pastries and some smoothies. After that we went to the museum. We were the first ones there as it opened at 10:00am and that is when we showed up. We walked around the museum for many hours looking at all of the illusions. There were many ...

A Full Day in Lyon by Olivier Trevor (Tuesday, 28 May)

On Tuesday May 28, we continued our incredible exchange trip in Lyon. During the day, we went to Les Halles de Lyon, La Musée des Confluences, and even attended a class with our hosts at Lycée Saint-Marc. In addition, we walked a great amount during the day to travel between these places. Although very tiring, this allowed us to explore the city even more than we ever had. Our day started bright and early, with our arrival at Lycée Saint-Marc. We attended classes with our hosts, and were given a much more in-depth look at how the school worked. Since we already had some familiarity with the school because of its introduction to us on Monday, and because of the guidance of our hosts, we were able to navigate around the school relatively comfortably. We then attended a class with our hosts for around an hour, then departed for Les Halles de Lyon. After walking and taking the metro, we arrived at the place which soon proved itself to be one of the greatest testaments to Lyon’s incredible ...

First Day of Classes at Lycée Saint Marc - Lyon by Jonathan Olson (Monday, 27 May)

Today was our first day of school with our French correspondents in Lyon. My day started off by grabbing breakfast and taking the train with my correspondent Paul to get to school at 8 o’clock. It took us around 20 minutes to get there, but I heard from others that it took them longer. It was fun to create comparisons between the trains in Boston and the trains in Lyon. My takeaways were that the stations themselves were much cleaner and well kept, the trains were much faster than the trains we take as Bostonians each day, and the trains ran without a conductor.  Once we got to our stop which was La Place Bellecour, we met up with some friends that we had not yet seen since we arrived at the airport, and started our walk to school. The walk itself was not long as the station was just a couple of streets away. When we got to the school, I noticed how big the entrance was. It was quite shocking to me. We entered the school and were brought into a room where we were given a presentati...

Sunday in Lyon by Charlie Hamblet (Sunday, 26 May)

Sunday was the first full day in France, so it was also the first day to be full of activities. As it was the weekend, we were still with our host families for the day rather than together in a group.  My family started off early with a morning mass. The mass happened to be at the high school we are doing the exchange with, Lycée Saint-Marc, and my exchange student was singing as part of her choir at the mass. What no one had realized was that this was an extra long mass, as it included both a baptism and a first communion. France has mother's day slightly later than the US does, and today was that day, so after the mass, my host family and I went to lunch at a restaurant in Lyon, where we ate local dishes. In the afternoon, my host and I went go-karting with one of the other exchanges and hosts, and the  two hosts' friends. We did a handful of laps for qualifying and then had a full 12 laps of racing. While both I and the other host finished in the bottom half,...

First Day in Lyon by Ryan Feloney (Saturday, 25 May)

My first day in Lyon was great.  It was great to see our Lyon friends from March and get our trip started.  We went to Patrick's correspondents house and saw horses, sheep, goats, and donkeys. Then we swam in the pool and are going to bed early to resolve the jet lag.
