A Full Day in Lyon by Olivier Trevor (Tuesday, 28 May)

On Tuesday May 28, we continued our incredible exchange trip in Lyon. During the day, we went to Les Halles de Lyon, La Musée des Confluences, and even attended a class with our hosts at Lycée Saint-Marc. In addition, we walked a great amount during the day to travel between these places. Although very tiring, this allowed us to explore the city even more than we ever had.

Our day started bright and early, with our arrival at Lycée Saint-Marc. We attended classes with our hosts, and were given a much more in-depth look at how the school worked. Since we already had some familiarity with the school because of its introduction to us on Monday, and because of the guidance of our hosts, we were able to navigate around the school relatively comfortably. We then attended a class with our hosts for around an hour, then departed for Les Halles de Lyon.

After walking and taking the metro, we arrived at the place which soon proved itself to be one of the greatest testaments to Lyon’s incredible gastronomy. Les Halles de Lyon is a large market, which features many small shops, and restaurants within it. Each of these shops and restaurants sells and serves some of the most authentic, original, and simply delicious French ingredients and food. After sampling some food, we all separated and explored the market in small groups, exploring, admiring, and buying as much French food and ingredients as we could.

After returning from Les Halles de Lyon, we had lunch back at the Lycée, and spent time talking to one another, and our correspondents. We then departed for La Musée des Confluences, situated at the point of merging for the Saône and Rhône rivers. La Musée des Confluences is a museum expressing the past, and current flowing together, meeting, and gathering point of all life in general. We were all first amazed at the exquisite, and large architectural design of the building. Our amazement drastically increased as we entered and first started exploring the museum. While in the museum we examined and admired both the history of the flowing together, meeting, and gathering point of all life, and its continuation in our current society.

After exploring the museum, we walked along the banks of both the Saône and Rhône rivers, a well as admiring their significant, and powerful merging point. The nice weather, and beautiful environment, made our walk relaxing and peaceful, resulting in it being the perfect way to culminate our day, before returning back to the Lycée to retune home with our hosts. Our experienced on this day seemed to make us even more excited for the days to come, as we enjoy and benefit from each one.
